<p>
لَـقَدۡ جَآءَكُمۡ رَسُوۡلٌ مِّنۡ اَنۡفُسِكُمۡ عَزِيۡزٌ عَلَيۡهِ مَا عَنِتُّمۡ حَرِيۡصٌ عَلَيۡكُمۡ بِالۡمُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ رَءُوۡفٌ رَّحِيۡمٌ‏
<br>
There has certainly come to you a Messenger from amongst yourselves. Grievous to him is what you suffer; [he is] concerned over you and to the Believers is he most kind and merciful.’
<br>
<strong>(Surah At-Tawbah (9) verse 128)</strong>
</p><br>
 <p>In this blessed Quranic verse there is a special subtlety with regards to how a different Quranic mode of recitation can give additional deeper meanings. Looking at the word:<br>

 اَنۡفُسِكُمۡ
<br>
This is from the Riwayah of Hafs and & Asim. With a dhammah on the letter ف. So it is pronounced as <strong>𝗔𝗻𝗙𝗨𝘀𝗶𝗸𝘂𝗺</strong>. With the meaning:
<br>
"He is from Yourselves"
<br>
This word is from the masdr word Nafs - (نَفْسْ).
<br>
Then in comparison, in another Qiraat - mode of recitation of the Quran this word is pronounced as <strong>𝗔𝗻𝗙𝗨𝘀𝗶𝗸𝘂𝗺</strong>. With a fatha on the letter ف instead of a Dhammah.
<br>
اَنۡفُسِكُمۡ = أَنْفَسِكُمْ
<br>
This gives a more elevated meaning:
<br>
"He is the Most Excellent from Yourselves."
<br>
The word أَنْفَسِكُمْ is from the masdr word Nafees - (نَفِيسْ).
<br>
This would result in the full meaning as being:
<br>
"Most certainly has come to you a Messenger who is the Most Excellent from Yourselves."
<br>
<strong>The word:</strong>
اَنۡفَسْ
<br>
This is a superlative noun, a اسم مبالغة - Ism Mubalagha.
<br>
This is describing a person to hold a quality that he is unparralled with. There is nobody else that shares that level of that quality.
<br>
This point was mentioned by many Mufasireen among them:

<br>
That some recite it as AnFAsikum and the majority pronounce it as AnFUsikum. Both are valid modes of recitation.

 Abdullah bin Qusayy Al-Makki recited it as "AnFAsikum" with the fatha on the "faa" in "nafasah."
<br>
It was narrated from the Prophet ﷺ and Fatimah رضي الله عنها that the meaning of this would be:
<br>
 "A messenger has come to you who is the noblest and best among you, more valuable like the saying: a precious thing when it is desired."
<br>
وقرأ عبد الله بن قُسيط المكي من «أنْفَسِكم» بفتح الفاء من النفاسة ورويت عن النبيّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وعن فاطمة رضي الله عنها أي جاءكم رسول من أشرفكم وأفضلكم من قولك: شيء نفيس إذا كان مرغوباً فيه.

This recitation is reported from the Prophet, peace be upon him, as well as from Fatimah and Aisha, may Allah be pleased with them. The meaning is that he is from the noblest and most honored among you, and this is related to the concept of honor, as it is the most honored of things.

{ لَقَدْ جَآءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ } تعرفون نسبه وحسبه، قال السدي: من العرب، من بني إسماعيل.
<br>
"meaning his lineage and origin," Al-Suddi said: "He is from the Arabs, from the descendants of Isma'il."
<br>
قال ابن عباس: ليس من العرب قبيلة إلاّ وقد ولدت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، وله فيهم نسب.
<br>
Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه said, "There is no Arab tribe that did not give birth to the Prophet, peace be upon him except he has lineage among them."
<br>
وقال جعفر بن محمد الصادق: لم يصبه شيء من ولاد الجاهلية من زمان آدم عليه السلام
<br>
Ja'far ibn Muhammad al-Sadiq said: "Nothing from the time of ignorance (pre-Islamic period) has touched him since the time of Adam, peace be upon him."
<br>
رُوي عن أبي بن كعب قال: آخر ما نزل من القرآن هاتان الآيتان: { لَقَدْ جَآءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ } إلى آخر السورة. وقال: هما أحدث الآيات بالله عهداً.
<br>
It was narrated on the authority of Ubayy ibn Ka’b that he said: The last thing that was revealed from the Qur’an were these two verses
 "{ لَقَدْ جَآءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ }
until the end of the Surah." And he said: "These are the most recent verses in which Allah made a covenant."

The phrase "مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُم" in English implies praise for the lineage of the Prophet, peace be upon him, and that he is from the heart and essence of the Arabs.
<br>
قوله تعالى: { مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ } يقتضي مدحاً لنسب النبيّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وأنه من صميم العرب وخالصها
<br>
In Sahih Muslim, it is narrated by Wathilah bin Al-Asqa' who said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah, may peace be upon him, say, 'Verily, Allah chose Kinanah from the descendants of Isma'il, then He chose the Quraish from Kinanah, and from the Quraish, He chose the Banu Hashim, and He chose me from the Banu Hashim.'"
<br>
وفي صحيح مسلم عن واثلة بن الأسْقع قال: سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: " إن الله ٱصطفى كنانة من ولد إسماعيل وٱصطفى قريشاً من كنانة وٱصطفى من قريش بني هاشم وٱصطفاني من بني هاشم "
<br>
It is narrated from him, may peace be upon him, that he said, "I am from lawful marriage and not from fornication."
<br>
وروي عنه صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه قال: " إني من نكاح ولست من سفاح "
<br>
This means that the lineage of the Prophet, peace be upon him, is traced back to Adam, peace be upon him, through lawful marriage, and there was no adultery in his lineage.
<br>

Ibn Atiyya said: His statement "من أنفسكم" implies praise for the lineage of the Prophet, peace be upon him, and that he is from the core of the Arabs and the noblest among them.
<br>
قال ابن عطية: وقوله من أنفسكم، يقتضي مدحاً لنسب النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وأنه من صميم العرب وأشرفها،
<br>
Allah described His Prophet, peace be upon him, with six attributes: the attributes of prophethood, which encompass the perfection of the human nature that the Messenger possessed, the purity of his noble soul, and his status among the chosen ones, enabling him to be the intermediary between Allah and His creation. Since this attribute is the most honorable of qualities, it is mentioned first.
<br>
وصف الله نبيه عليه السلام بستة: أوصاف الرسالة وهي صفة كمال الإنسان لما احتوت عليه من كمال ذات الرسول وطهارة نفسه الزكية، وكونه من الخيار بحيث أهل أنْ يكون واسطة بين الله وبين خلقه، ولما كانت هذه الصفة أشرف الأشياء بدىء بذكرها
<br>
And that he is from among themselves, which is a significant attribute in effectively communicating with and understanding him, and feeling close to him. If the address is to the Arabs, then this attribute serves to highlight their honor and encourages them to follow him. If the address is to all of humanity, it is a way to mention them with kindness and gently convey the message to them. He is known among them for his truthfulness, trustworthiness, chastity, and integrity.
<br>
وكونه من أنفسهم وهي صفة مؤثرة في البليغ والفهم عنه والتآنس به، فإن كان خطاباً للعرب ففي هذه الصفة التنبيه على شرفهم والتحريض على اتباعه، وإن كان الخطاب لبني آدم ففيه التنويه بهم واللطف في إيصال الخبر إليهم، وأنه معروف بينهم بالصدق والأمانة والعفاف والصيانة.
<br>
And the fact that what is burdensome to you is distressing to him, this description is one of the results of his prophethood. Also, the fact that he is from among themselves, because one who is from your own people, guides you to what is good, and finds it difficult to convey anything harmful to you, and is eager for your guidance, is also a result of his prophethood, as he was sent to worship Allah alone and declare His divinity. And his compassion and mercy towards the believers, which are both attributes resulting from their following him and entering into the religion of Allah. "The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that you may receive mercy." [Quran, Surah Al-Hujurat, 49:10] "The believer to the believer is like a solid structure, one part supporting the other."
<br>

They said: 'You are the Messenger of Allah, upon you be peace.'
